The third of the seven tools required to understand Bible
prophecy is presented in the book of Revelation : «And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to make war with
the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments of God and have the of .»
By comparing two passages of Revelation ,
which are almost identical, we can see that the words «your
brethren who have the testimony of Jesus» are synonymous with:
«your brethren the
prophets» .
«your brethren the
deacons» .
«your brethren the
teachers of the law» .
«your brethren the
ministers» .
How did the prophets bring the testimony of Jesus? In his First Epistle , the apostle Peter answers: «Of
this the prophets
have inquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you,
searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ who was in them was
indicating when He testified beforehand the of Christ and the that would follow.»
The Acts of the Apostles also
reports the important message of the prophets, when they brought the testimony of Jesus: «To [Jesus] all the prophets witness that, through His name, whoever in Him will receive of sins.»
According to the Gospel according to
John and the First Epistle of John , to bear the
testimony of Jesus implies the following elements (check off all the right answers):
To acknowledge Jesus' saving work on the
cross.
To accept Jesus' sacrifice for the
forgiveness of our sins.
To put into practice the teachings of Jesus.
To reflect God's character, marked by
unconditional love.
The Gospel according to John
tells us that God wants to regularly remind us of the testimony of Jesus, so that we may
never lose sight of the plan of salvation He has set up for each one of us. God has given
this reminder mission to:
the angels.
the Virgin Mary.
religious leaders.
the Holy Spirit.
Once «the testimony of Christ is
confirmed in us» , the First Epistle of Paul to the
Corinthians invites us to prepare ourselves for this glorious event: «(...) eagerly waiting for the of our Lord Jesus Christ,
who will also confirm you to the , that you may be blameless in the of our Lord Jesus Christ.»
Many times in the book of Revelation ,
John speaks of the indissociable duo formed by «the testimony of
Jesus» and:
«the tradition of
men» .
«philosophical
thinking» .
«the word of God» .
«salvation by works» .
The book of Revelation says
that bearing the testimony of Jesus won't be always easy: «I saw
the souls of those who had been for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God.»
But the rest of the verse aims at encouraging us: «And they and with Christ for a thousand
years.»
Finally, we know that in these last days, false prophets
abound. The fear of being deceived could lead us to put aside the testimony of Jesus. Yet,
the First Epistle of Paul to the Thessalonians advises: «Do not the Spirit. Do not prophecies. all things; fast what is good.»
