In our lesson, we studied 7 reasons for which we must study Bible prophecy. The first reason can be summarized in a single word, found in the book of the prophet Daniel : «I will show you that which is noted in the Scripture of .» In the Gospel according to John , Jesus also lays stress on this word, by saying, «You shall know the , and the shall make you free.»
What part of the Word of God carries a prophetic content?
About one-tenth.
About one-sixth.
About one-fourth.
About one-third.
Second reason for which we must study Bible prophecy: because God asks us to do so. In the book of the prophet Habakkuk , God says, «Write the vision, and make it plain on tables, that he may run that it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie. Though it tarry, for it; because it will come, it will not tarry.»
In the book of Genesis and the book of the prophet Amos , we find the third reason for which we must study Bible prophecy. This reason can be summarized by this famous saying:
«A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.»
«It’s better to let well alone.»
«Forewarned is forearmed.»
«A rolling stone gathers no moss.»
Unfortunately, God’s warnings did not always receive all the attention they deserved, as reported by the prophet Jeremiah : «The Lord has sent to you all His servants the , rising early and sending them; but you have not , nor inclined your to .» And very often, the consequences of this stubbornness have been tragic, as we have seen in our lesson.
In the Gospel according to Matthew , Jesus Himself reminds us of the importance of Bible prophecy, and invites us to examine the book of an Old Testament prophet, in order to make ourselves acquainted with the warnings written in it. What is that Old Testament prophetic book?
The book of the prophet Isaiah .
The book of the prophet Jeremiah .
The book of the prophet Ezekiel .
The book of the prophet Daniel .
In the sixth century B.C., the prophet Daniel received this order: «But you, O Daniel, shut up the words, and the book, even to the time of the .» Centuries later, in the book of Revelation , the apostle John received the opposite order: « not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at .» The fourth reason is therefore: Bible prophecy can be understood here and now.
The fifth reason showing the importance of prophecy is found in the Gospel according to Luke and the Gospel according to John . We then discovered that Bible prophecy gravitates around a great figure, whom we will learn to know better through this set of lessons. Who is this great character?
Jesus Christ.
Moses.
The prophet Elijah.
The prophet Daniel.
The Second Epistle of Paul to Timothy presents the sixth reason for which we must study Bible prophecy: «From a child you have the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise to through faith which is in .» Studying prophecy will indeed help us to better understand God’s plan of salvation leading us to eternal life.
Finally, in the book of Revelation , Jesus Himself gives us the seventh and last reason, by announcing the nearness of a great event which is the glorious hope of each faithful believer: «Behold, I quickly. Blessed is he that the sayings of the of this book.» In fact, the more this great event approaches, the more we must turn our attention to Bible prophecy and understand it.
