If I Were Told the Future: Test for Lesson 13

  1. In the book of Exodus, God instructed Moses, «According to all that I show you, after the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern of all the instruments thereof, even so shall you make [the sanctuary].» So, not only the tabernacle but also «all the instruments» were made according to the pattern of the heavenly sanctuary. In his vision of heaven, which items of the earthly sanctuary did the apostle John see? (Check off all the right answers.)
    The altar of burnt offering.
    The seven-branch candlestick.
    The altar of incense.
    The ark of the covenant.

  2. In the book of Revelation, the apostle John describes this vision, «And I beheld, and, see, in the middle of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the middle of the elders, stood a as it had been The altar of burnt offering in the heavenly sanctuary receives the highest sacrifice, Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, slain for our salvation.

  3. Besides the altar of burnt offering, the courtyard of the earthly sanctuary contained the laver of bronze. Which stage of the Christian life does the laver of bronze symbolize?
    Confession of our sins.
Acceptance of Jesus as our personal Savior.
    Commitment to God through baptism.

  4. In the Holy Place was placed the table of showbread, upon which were set the showbread, replaced every Sabbath. According to the symbolism used by Jesus in the Gospel according to Matthew, we understand that «to replace the showbread every Sabbath» means for us:
to regularly repent of our sins.
to regularly deepen our knowledge of God and His will.
to regularly make our needs known to God.
to regularly testify to what God has done for us.

  5. In the Holy Place was also placed the seven-branch candlestick, used to supply with oil seven lamps burning night and day, giving continuous light to the sanctuary. The Second Epistle of Paul to the Corinthians helps us to understand the symbolic meaning of this item in the life of each Christian: «For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, has shined in our , to give the light of the of the glory of God in the face of The candlestick thus points to the ministry of Christ, the light of the world, who always enlightens us.

  6. The oil contained in the seven-branch candlestick is what was bringing continuous light to the sanctuary. According to the book of Zechariah, what does this oil symbolize?
    Faith working through love.
The breath of life which animates each living being.
The Holy Spirit who works within each one of us.
The zeal leading us to work intelligently for God.

  7. In the Holy Place was also found the altar of incense, upon which was burned sweet incense every morning and evening. According to the book of Revelation, what does this incense symbolize?
    The prayers of the saints.
The good works of the saints.
    The teaching of spiritual matters.
The testimony of what God has done for us.

  8. The ark of the covenant, a chest overlaid with gold inside and outside, was situated in the Most Holy Place. The book of Revelation states that the original pattern of the ark of the covenant is found in the heavenly sanctuary. In fact, the book of Revelation often mentions, directly and indirectly, an item that is found in the ark of the convenant. What is that item?
    The book of Moses’ law.
The twelve precious stones of the High Priest’s breastplate.
    The twelve loaves of showbread.
The tables of the Ten Commandments.

  9. In the Most Holy Place was also found the mercy seat, used as a lid over the ark of the covenant and topped by two cherubim. In the book of Exodus, God explains the role of the mercy seat: «There I will with you, and I will commune with you from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim which are on the ark of the testimony, of all things which I will give you in to the children of Israel.»

  10. The mercy seat is placed above the tablets of the law, showing us that by the sacrifice of our sin offering, Jesus Christ our propitiation, we get the forgiveness of our sins, that is, our transgressions of God’s law. The Epistle of Paul to the Romans tells us, «Moreover the entered, that the offense might abound. But where abounded, did much more abound.» God’s sanctuary therefore bears good news for the believer!
