If I Were Told the Future - Test 18

The Ram and the Goat

In order to check your understanding and your progress in the study of the Word of God, we invite you to fill out this short test and return it to us. The correct answers will be sent back to you as soon as possible.

A mark of 70% or better will allow you to submit the test of Lesson 19. Upon the completion of the entire Bible course If I Were Told the Future, you will receive a Certificate of Achievement.

If I Were Told the Future: Test for Lesson 18

  1. In Daniel chapter 8, the vision of the prophet Daniel begins with a ram which has two horns unequal in length. Bible prophecy does not give way to human interpretation: indeed, the angel Gabriel himself, sent by God, reveals what this ram symbolizes: «The ram which you saw having two horns are the kings of and

  2. Still in Daniel chapter 8, we see the ram pushing in three directions, symbolizing its successive conquests which spread its empire in all the following directions, except one. Which one?
    «Westward.»
    «Northward.»
    «Eastward.»
    «Southward.»

  3. The vision of Daniel chapter 8 then presents a powerful goat, running at the ram. Here again, prophecy gives no way to interpretation, because the angel Gabriel himself reveals what this goat symbolizes. It is:
    the Medo-Persian Empire.
    the Greek Empire.
    the Babylonian Empire.
    the Roman Empire.

  4. The angel Gabriel then reveals what follows concerning the powerful goat: «The great horn that is between his eyes is the first king.» Who is that king?
    Julius Caesar.
    Antiochus IV Epiphanes.
    Cyrus II the Great.
    Alexander the Great.

  5. The vision of Daniel chapter 8 then announces, «The he-goat waxed very great: and when he was strong, the great horn was broken; and for it came up four notable ones toward the four winds of heaven.» Just as foretold, the great Greek king died at the height of his fame, and was replaced by his four generals, among whom we find (check off all the right answers):
    Lysimachus.
    Cyrus.
    Ptolemy.
    Seleucus.

  6. Daniel chapter 8 then predicts the rise of the Roman Empire, even announcing that this kingdom would grow in all the following directions, except one. Which one?
«Toward the south», as far as Egypt.
«Toward the east», as far as Syria.
«Toward the north», as far as Babylon.
«Toward the Pleasant Land», that is, toward Palestine.

  7. After that, Daniel chapter 8 foretells the coming of a last earthly kingdom, about which it says, «His power shall be mighty, but by his own power. He shall destroy wonderfully, and shall , and practice, and shall destroy the mighty and the people.» This power, symbolized by a little horn, corresponds to the little horn of Daniel chapter 7.

  8. Still according to Daniel chapter 8, this «little horn» will also accomplish its crimes on the spiritual level: «And a host was given him against the daily by reason of transgression, and it cast down the to the ground. And it practiced, and Among other things, this power would darken the work of sacrifice Jesus performed for the salvation of men.

  9. Daniel chapter 8 announces the end of the domination of the power symbolized by the «little horn». How will this happen, according to the prophet Daniel?
«He shall be annihilated by surrounding nations.»
«He shall ally with another kingdom, creating a greater power.»
«Recognizing his errors, he shall put an end to his own existence.»
«He shall be broken without hand.»

  10. Finally, let’s carefully note what the angel Gabriel says about the vision of Daniel chapter 8, «Understand, O son of man: for at the time of the shall be the vision. (...) I will make you know what shall be in the last of the indignation: for at the time appointed the shall be.» The understanding of this prophecy is all the more important since it is especially addressed to the generation who will live during the last days of this world.
