If I Were Told the Future - Test 26

Letter to the Church of Sardis

In order to check your understanding and your progress in the study of the Word of God, we invite you to fill out this short test and return it to us. The correct answers will be sent back to you as soon as possible.

A mark of 70% or better will allow you to submit the test of Lesson 27. Upon the completion of the entire Bible course If I Were Told the Future, you will receive a Certificate of Achievement.

If I Were Told the Future: Test for Lesson 26

  1. The book of Revelation contains seven letters addressed to seven different churches. The fifth one is the church of Sardis, a name which means:
    «That which remains».
    «That which gives light».
    «That which suffers».
    «That which is dying».

  2. In the letter to the church of Sardis, in the book of Revelation, Jesus is portrayed as follows, «These things said He that has the seven Spirits of God.» We can find the list of the «seven Spirits of God» in an Old Testament book. Which book is it?
    The book of Ezekiel.
    The book of Jeremiah.
    The book of Daniel.
    The book of Isaiah.

  3. In His letter to the church of Sardis, Jesus is introduced as follows, «These things said He that has the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars.» The book of Revelation explains the meaning of this symbolic description, thus giving us the following message:
Jesus will impose His will to the Church unfaithful to Him.
Jesus knows the condition of His Church, and wants to help it.
Jesus quickly forsakes the Church that disobeys Him.
Jesus promotes the union of all the world’s religions.

  4. Besides their local application, the seven letters also have a prophetic application, describing the seven stages of the Christian Church history, from the days of John until the end of times. Which period is prophetically described by the letter to the church of Sardis?
The Compromising Church, from 313 to 538.
The Corrupt Church, from 538 to 1517.
The Reformation Church, from 1517 to 1755.
The Awakening Church, from 1755 to 1844.

  5. After having introduced Himself, Jesus usually emphasizes the positive points of the church. In His letter to the church of Sardis, which positive point does Jesus mention at the beginning of His message?
«You can not bear them which are evil.»
«You have tried them which say they are apostles, and are not.»
    «You have labored for My name’s sake.»

    Jesus mentions no positive point.

  6. On the other hand, Jesus directs the following reproach at the church of Sardis, «I know your works, that you have a name that you , and are Indeed, during the period prophesied by the letter to the church of Sardis, theologians became more preoccupied with defining the Gospel than with living it in their hearts. Their faith thus lost all its meaning and power.

  7. Seeing the sad spiritual condition of the church of Sardis, Jesus advises, «Be , and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to , for I have not found your works perfect before God. therefore how you have received and heard, and hold fast, and

  8. The letters to the seven churches also contain a personal message for each one of us. The advice and promises specifically addressed to the church of Sardis can indeed be very useful to us, because:
very difficult times will come before Jesus’ return.
it is always easier to yield to compromise.
the fire of our first love must be kept alive.
our faith can turn into cold formalism.

  9. Among the following elements, please check off all those which Jesus promises to him who overcomes, in the letter to the church of Sardis:
«He shall be clothed in white raiment.»
«I will not blot out his name out of the Book of Life.»
«I will confess his name before My Father.»
«I will confess his name before My Father’s angels.»

  10. Finally, the following warning, that Jesus addresses to the church of Sardis, is especially useful for us who live in the last days: «If therefore you shall not , I will come on you as a , and you shall not what hour I will come on you.» It is therefore up to us to properly prepare ourselves for this great event!
