Letter to the Church of Laodicea

If I Were Told the Future: Test for Lesson 28

  1. The book of Revelation contains seven letters addressed to seven different churches. The seventh one is the church of Laodicea, a name which means:
    «Brotherly love».
    «Savor of labor».
    «Judging the people».
    «That which remains».

  2. In the letter to the church of Laodicea, Jesus is portrayed as follows, «These things said the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness.» In the book of Revelation, what is the event associated with the description «Faithful and True»?
    The sacrifice of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of our sins.
    The ascension of Jesus to His Father.
    The outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.
    The glorious return of Jesus Christ.

  3. Besides their local application, the seven letters also have a prophetic application, describing the seven stages of the Christian Church history, from the days of John until the end of times. Which period is prophetically described by the letter to the church of Laodicea?
    The Corrupt Church, from 538 to 1517.
    The Reformation Church, from 1517 to 1755.
    The Awakening Church, from 1755 to 1844.
    The Church of today, from 1844 to Jesus’ return.

  4. Usually, after having introduced Himself, Jesus mentions the positive points of the church. What positive point does Jesus underline at the beginning of His message to the church of Laodicea?
    Jesus finds no positive point in Laodicea.
    «You can not bear them which are evil.»
    «You have tried them which say they are apostles, and are not.»
    «You have labored for My name’s sake.»

  5. On the other hand, Jesus directs the following reproach at the church of Laodicea: «I know your works, that you are neither nor Self-satisfied, the Church is nonchalant, becomes more and more insensitive to God’s calls to repentance, and is even unable to cast a critical look at its tragic situation.

  6. Seeing the pathetic spiritual condition of the church of Laodicea, Jesus recommends the church to get three things. First, He says, «I counsel you to buy of Me gold tried in the fire, that you may be rich.» According to the Word of God, what does this «gold tried in the fire» symbolize?
    Material wealth.
    Faith in Jesus Christ.
    Good works.
    The Holy Spirit.

  7. Jesus then advises the church of Laodicea to get the following element: «I counsel you to buy of Me (...) white raiment, that you may be , and that the shame of your do not appear.» This white raiment symbolizes the of Jesus Christ which cleanses us from all our sins.

  8. Finally, Jesus advises the church of Laodicea to get the following thing: «I counsel you (...) [to] anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.» According to the Word of God, what does this eye salve symbolize?
    Faith in Jesus Christ.
    Good works.
    The Bible.
    The Holy Spirit.

  9. The letters to the seven churches also contain a personal message for each one of us. What is the personal message given by the letter to the church of Laodicea?
    Let’s proclaim the gospel with perseverance.
    Let’s avoid yielding to doctrinal compromise.
    Let’s avoid being satisfied with our spiritual state.
    Let’s not allow our faith to turn into cold formalism.

  10. The letter to the church of Laodicea ends with this promise to him who perseveres until the end: «To him that will I grant to sit with Me in My , even as I also , and am set down with My Father in His And Jesus offers us the power we need to persevere until the end!
