If I Were Told the Future - Test 60

The 144,000 and the Great Multitude

In order to check your understanding and your progress in the study of the Word of God, we invite you to fill out this short test and return it to us. The correct answers will be sent back to you as soon as possible.

A mark of 70% or better will allow you to submit the test of Lesson 61. Upon the completion of the entire Bible course If I Were Told the Future, you will receive a Certificate of Achievement.

If I Were Told the Future: Test for Lesson 60

  1. At the end of the sixth seal, we have seen the rebellious nations, trying to hide themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains as they face the glory of Jesus’ return. Confronted with this terrifying spectacle, they cry:
«Why does God act this way?»
«Is it already the end of the world?»
    «What evil have we done?»
«Who shall be able to stand?»

  2. Before going on with the seventh seal, the book of Revelation answers the nations’ question in the sixth seal by presenting some groups of faithful believers. Among these groups, we find (check off all the right answers):
    «The 144,000.»
    «The 24 elders.»
    «The great multitude.»
    «The four beasts.»

  3. The list of the tribes making up the 144,000, found in Revelation chapter 7, is different from the original list of the tribes of Israel, found in the Old Testament. What is the difference?
The tribe of Reuben is replaced by the tribe of Gad.
The tribe of Dan is replaced by the tribe of Manasseh.
The tribe of Judah is replaced by the tribe of Joseph.
The tribe of Levi is replaced by the tribe of Benjamin.

  4. The book of Revelation did not accurately reproduce the original list of the 12 tribes of Israel, because, under the New Covenant, the Israel of God is no longer made up of Jews according to the flesh, but of Jews according to the heart, that is, the Church of Christ. The Epistle of Paul to the Romans confirms this fact: «For he is not a Jew, which is one ; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the . But he is a Jew, which is one ; and circumcision is that of the , in the spirit, and not in the letter.»

  5. The number 144,000, found in the book of Revelation, has a special symbolic meaning. By carefully analyzing this number in the light of the prophetic Word, we discover that it designates...
... an elite made up of exactly 144,000 people.
... all the martyrs throughout history.
... a large number of faithful believers.
    ... the angels of heaven.

  6. The book of Revelation describes the 144,000 with the following characteristics (check off all the right answers):
They have the seal of God on their foreheads.
They follow the Lamb wherever He goes.
They reject any doctrine that is foreign to the Word of God.
They truthfully proclaim the message of God.

  7. The book of Revelation says that the 144,000 sing a «new song» and the «song of Moses». According to the Word of God, what is the subject of these two songs?
    The wonders of Creation.
    God’s wisdom.
The gift of the Holy Spirit.
    God’s salvation.

  8. What is the link between the 144,000 and the great multitude of Revelation chapter 7?
The 144,000 teach the great multitude.
The 144,000 are a part of the great multitude.
Both represent the very same people.
There is no link between them.

  9. Describing the time of trouble before the return of Christ, the last chapter of the book of Daniel also presents the link between the 144,000 and the great multitude: «They that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn to as the for ever and ever.»

  10. The experience of the 144,000 calls to mind the apostles’ at Pentecost. Describing a scene that will take place in the last days, the prophet Zechariah reports this amazing prophecy: «In those days it shall come to pass, that ten men shall take hold out of all of the nations, even shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a , saying, “We will go with you: for we have heard that is with you.”» Are we ready to fulfill this great mission?
