If I Were Told the Future - Lesson 100

«Babylon is Fallen, is Fallen!»

Screen 1

Let’s pray before beginning this lesson:

The message of the first angel has convinced us that we are now going through a very solemn period, because the hour of Your judgment has come.

Please guide us today as we study the second angel’s message, so that we may, with the help of Your Spirit, still better understand what You expect from each one of us in these last days.

In the precious name of Jesus Christ we pray.

Screen 2

Revelation 14:6,7

And I saw another angel fly in the middle of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach to them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, saying with a loud voice,

«Fear God, and give glory to Him; for the hour of His judgment is come: and worship Him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.»

As we have seen in our last lesson, the message of the first angel proclaims a heartfelt call to all the inhabitants of the earth, inviting them to return to God.

Screen 3

Revelation 14:8

And there followed another angel, saying,

«Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.»

But, in His infinite wisdom, God knows that the message of the first angel won’t be sufficient to awake sleeping souls.

So, to break the false sense of security which deludes the conscience of so many people, God also sends a second angel, bearing a more aggressive message, «Babylon is fallen, is fallen!»

This message is not unknown to us...

Screen 4

Revelation 18:2,4

Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen! (...)

Come out of her, My people, that you be not partakers of her sins, and that you receive not of her plagues.

Indeed, we have seen in the lesson «The Loud Cry» that the content of the second angel’s message corresponds precisely with the final warning which will be given to the whole world before the close of probation.

This warning invites each sincere person to come out of Babylon, that is, the apostate religio-political system that will reign in the last days.

Screen 5

Jeremiah 51:8,9

«Babylon is suddenly fallen and destroyed: howl for her; take balm for her pain, if so be she may be healed.

- We would have healed Babylon, but she is not healed: forsake her, and let us go every one into his own country: for her judgment reaches to heaven.»

Also in our lesson «The Fall of Babylon», we studied that God has been exceedingly patient with Babylon, incessantly calling all the apostate churches to return to Him, to rediscover His will, and to obey Him.

Unfortunately, Babylon has always stubbornly refused to heed God’s loving calls.

Screen 6

Jeremiah 50:29,31,32

«Call together the archers against Babylon: all you that bend the bow, camp against it round about; let none thereof escape.

Recompense her according to her work; according to all that she has done, do to her: for she has been proud against the Lord, against the Holy One of Israel.» (...)

«Behold, I am against you, O you most proud,» said the Lord God of hosts, «for your day is come, the time that I will visit you. And the most proud shall stumble and fall, and none shall raise him up.»

The main cause of Babylon’s unrepentance is her pride.

Having a very high opinion of herself, she is convinced of her infallibility, and does not see at all the necessity of repenting and coming back to God.

Screen 7

Revelation 18:2

Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit!

Because of her pride and her satanic ambition to take the place of God, Babylon «is become the habitation of devils».

Even more, her false doctrine of the immortality of the soul, according to which a part of man survives after death and can communicate with the living, leaves the door wide open to all the deceiving wonders of spiritualism, the favorite weapon of Satan, as we have seen in our lesson «The False Prophet».

Screen 8

Revelation 14:8

And there followed another angel, saying,

«Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city.»

Because of the hardening of Babylon’s heart, the Spirit of God ceased to call her to repentance.

When the proclamation of the three angels’ message began in 1844, the servants of God were already able to proclaim that Babylon was fallen.

In fact, we discovered in our lessons that Babylon was already in existence during the Middle Ages as the papal system, and that she stubbornly refused to repent until her fall in 1798.

Screen 9

Revelation 13:3,8

And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed.

And all the world wondered after the beast. (...)

And all that dwell on the earth shall worship him.

The Papacy, symbolized by the beast rising from the sea, recovered its political power in 1929, and its influence in 1948: thus was healed the deadly wound of the beast.

Since that time, the Papacy has gained considerable prestige and authority over the nations, even to the point of gaining the admiration, and soon the worship, of «all that dwell on the earth».

Screen 10

Revelation 14:8

Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.

Shortly before Jesus’ return, the Papacy’s influence over the nations will generate a worldwide apostate religio-political coalition.

Receiving authority over all the churches that have rejected «the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus» (Revelation 14:12), this spiritual Babylon will rule the whole world, on both religious and political levels.

Babylon will then make all nations drink of her wine.

But what is this wine?

Screen 11

Isaiah 28:7

But they also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way.

The priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink, they are swallowed up of wine, they are out of the way through strong drink.

They err in vision, they stumble in judgment.

Just like wine, which causes the drinkers’ judgment to reel, Babylon’s teachings intoxicate the nations, deceiving them with false doctrines which will ultimately lead them to death and loss.

Screen 12

Revelation 18:2,3

Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.

For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.

The wine of Babylon, intoxicating all the nations of the earth, takes many forms.

In addition to all the lying spiritual movements, this wine also groups together all the humanist and materialistic trends which negate the usefulness of God, indeed even His existence, and deem the Bible to be a collection of myths.

Babylon’s wine thus takes men far from God and His salvation in Jesus.

Screen 13

John 7:37,38

Jesus stood and cried, saying,

«If any man thirst, let him come to Me, and drink. He that believes on Me, as the Scripture has said, “Out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.”»

1 Corinthians 10:20,21

I would not that you should have fellowship with devils.

You cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils.

Sooner or later, each one of us will drink, either from Jesus’ living water, or from Babylon’s wine cup.

No one can drink from both sources at the same time; nor can we drink at neither source!

Screen 14

Jeremiah 50:26,38

Come against [Babylon] from the utmost border. (...)

A drought is on her waters; and they shall be dried up. For it is the land of graven images.

Revelation 17:15

The waters which you saw, where the whore sits, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.

The second angel’s message, preached with power and authority throughout the whole world, will intensify Babylon’s fall.

Many people will then respond to God’s call, and leave Babylon.

This exodus is symbolized by the drying up of the waters.

Screen 15

Jeremiah 50:2,4,5,8

«Declare you among the nations, and publish, and set up a standard; publish, and conceal not: say, “Babylon is taken.”» (...)

«In those days, and in that time,» said the Lord, «the children of Israel shall come, they and the children of Judah together, going and weeping: they shall go, and seek the Lord their God.

They shall ask the way to Zion with their faces thitherward, saying,

“Come, and let us join ourselves to the Lord in a perpetual covenant that shall not be forgotten. (...) Remove out of the middle of Babylon, and go forth out of the land of the Chaldeans.”»

Seeing all these sincere believers leaving Babylon will be a moving spectacle.

Screen 16

God will watch over the sincere believers coming out of Babylon:

«Thus said the Lord; “Behold, I will raise up against Babylon, and against them that dwell in the middle of them that rise up against me, a destroying wind. (...) For Israel has not been forsaken, nor Judah of his God, of the Lord of hosts. (...) Flee out of the middle of Babylon, and deliver every man his soul!”» (Jeremiah 51:1,5,6)

«My people, go you out of the middle of [Babylon], and deliver you every man his soul from the fierce anger of the Lord. (...) You that have escaped the sword, go away, stand not still: remember the Lord afar off, and let Jerusalem come into your mind.» (Jeremiah 51:45,50)

«Therefore thus said the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; “Behold, I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, as I have punished the king of Assyria. And I will bring Israel again to his habitation, and he shall feed on Carmel and Bashan, and his soul shall be satisfied on mount Ephraim and Gilead. In those days, and in that time,” said the Lord, “the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none; and the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found: for I will pardon them whom I reserve.”» (Jeremiah 50:18-20)

Screen 17

Genesis 6:12-14

God looked on the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way on the earth.

And God said to Noah,

«The end of all flesh is come before Me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth. Make you an ark of gopher wood.»

The Bible depicts many situations in which God decided to carry out a mass destruction of unrepentant men.

But, before doing so, He always warned His people to protect themselves from this destruction.

Screen 18

God warns His people, before the mass destruction of unrepentant men:

«And the men said to Lot, “Have you here any besides? Son-in-law, and your sons, and your daughters, and whatever you have in the city, bring them out of this place: for we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the Lord; and the Lord has sent us to destroy it.”» (Genesis 19:12,13)

«[Moses] spoke to the congregation, saying, “Depart, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest you be consumed in all their sins.”» (Numbers 16:26)

«When you therefore shall see the “abomination of desolation,” spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, whoever reads, let him understand: then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains.» (Matthew 24:15,16)

Screen 19

Isaiah 48:17,20

Thus said the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel,

«I am the Lord your God which teaches you to profit, which leads you by the way that you should go. (...)

Go you forth of Babylon, flee you from the Chaldeans!

With a voice of singing declare you, tell this, utter it even to the end of the earth; say you, “The Lord has redeemed His servant Jacob!”»

So the call to come out of Babylon, in order to join God’s remnant Church, is the very last offer of salvation given to all the inhabitants of the earth.

Screen 20

Isaiah 62:1,2

For Zion’s sake will I not hold My peace, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest, until the righteousness thereof go forth as brightness, and the salvation thereof as a lamp that burns.

And the Gentiles shall see your righteousness, and all kings your glory.

Matthew 24:14

And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness to all nations.

And then shall the end come.

Everyone will hear the loud cry, and will then have to make a choice which will determine his eternal destiny.

Screen 21

Isaiah 52:7,8,10,11

How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of him that brings good tidings, that publishes peace; that brings good tidings of good, that publishes salvation; that says to Zion, «Your God reigns!»

Your watchmen shall lift up the voice; with the voice together shall they sing: for they shall see eye to eye, when the Lord shall bring again Zion. (...)

«All the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.

Depart you, depart you, go you out from there, touch no unclean thing! Go you out of the middle of her! Be you clean, that bear the vessels of the Lord.»

The loud cry will cause everyone to make a choice between these two alternatives:

- accepting God’s final offer of salvation;

- or staying in the apostate system of Babylon.

Screen 22

John 10:16

[Jesus said,]

«And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear My voice.

And there shall be one fold, and one Shepherd.»

Romans 8:14

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

So we must always remember, when we proclaim the fall of Babylon, that many sincere believers are still to be found within it.

These believers will respond to the final call and come out of this system, when the loud cry takes place.

Screen 23

Revelation 18:2,4

Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen! (...)

Come out of her, My people, that you be not partakers of her sins, and that you receive not of her plagues.

The message of the second angel will lead all the sincere believers to become aware of their situation, and to leave Babylon before the close of probation.

By doing so, they will begin to dry up Babylon’s waters, that is, the peoples and nations over which she exercises her domination.

But this drying up of Babylon’s waters won’t stop there...

Screen 24

Revelation 17:16,18

And the ten horns which you saw on the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire. (...)

And the woman which you saw is that great city, which reigns over the kings of the earth.

This drying up will be completed at the end of the sixth vial.

The nations, understanding that they have been deceived by Babylon, that is, the coalition of apostate churches led by the Papacy, will then completely withdraw their support, and deprive her of the authority they have given her.

Screen 25

Isaiah 44:27,28

[The Lord] said to the deep, «Be dry! And I will dry up your rivers.»

[He] said of Cyrus, «He is My shepherd, and shall perform all My pleasure.»

Isaiah 46:10,11

I will do all My pleasure: calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man that executes My counsel from a far country.

Ancient Babylon also fell following the drying up of its river, the Euphrates, caused by the troops of Cyrus, king of Persia.

And just as foretold, this king came «from the east» of the kingdom of Babylon.

Screen 26

Revelation 16:12

And the sixth angel poured out his vial on the great river Euphrates.

And the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared.

Matthew 24:27

For as the lightning comes out of the east, and shines even to the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

Likewise, when the nations stop supporting spiritual Babylon, thus drying up her spiritual river Euphrates, the way will be prepared for the coming of the King from the east, Jesus Christ.

Screen 27

The coming of Jesus, the King from the east, will complete Babylon’s fall:

«The burden of Babylon, which Isaiah the son of Amoz did see. (...)

They come from a far country, from the end of heaven, even the Lord, and the weapons of His indignation, to destroy the whole land.

Howl you; for the Day of the Lord is at hand! It shall come as a destruction from the Almighty.

Therefore shall all hands be faint, and every man’s heart shall melt: and they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travails: they shall be amazed one at another; their faces shall be as flames.

Behold, the Day of the Lord comes, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and He shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.» (Isaiah 13:1,5-9)

Screen 28

Jeremiah 51:63,64

And it shall be, when you have made an end of reading this book, that you shall bind a stone to it, and cast it into the middle of Euphrates. And you shall say,

«Thus shall Babylon sink, and shall not rise from the evil that I will bring on her.»

Revelation 18:21

And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying,

«Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.»

The fall of literal Babylon was symbolized by a stone thrown into a river.

However, it is a millstone thrown into the sea that will confirm the fate of spiritual Babylon: a total destruction.

Screen 29

The final fate of Babylon will be a total and permanent destruction:

«And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees’ excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah. It shall never be inhabited, neither shall it be dwelled in from generation to generation. (...) Her time is near to come, and her days shall not be prolonged.» (Isaiah 13:19,20,22)

«Thus said the Lord; “Behold, I will raise up against Babylon, and against them that dwell in the middle of them that rise up against Me, a destroying wind; and will send to Babylon fanners, that shall fan her, and shall empty her land: for in the day of trouble they shall be against her round about.”» (Jeremiah 51:1,2)

«“For I will rise up against them,” said the Lord of hosts, “and cut off from Babylon the name, and remnant, and son, and nephew,” said the Lord. “I will also make it a possession for the bittern, and pools of water: and I will sweep it with the besom of destruction.”» (Isaiah 14:22,23)

Screen 30

Revelation 18:8,10

Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire.

For strong is the Lord God who judges her. (...)

«Alas, alas that great city Babylon, that mighty city! For in one hour is your judgment come.»

Isaiah 47:1,11

Daughter of Babylon, (...) evil shall come on you; you shall not know from where it rises: and mischief shall fall on you; you shall not be able to put it off.

And desolation shall come on you suddenly, which you shall not know.

These two passages clearly show that Babylon’s destruction will be sudden, unexpected, and completed in a very short time.

Screen 31

Revelation 19:1,2

And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying,

«Alleluia! Salvation, and glory, and honor, and power, to the Lord our God!

For true and righteous are His judgments: for He has judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and has avenged the blood of His servants at her hand.»

As we have seen in our lesson «Armageddon», the last stage of the fall of Babylon will correspond with the return of Jesus.

That is why such a scene of rejoicing takes place in heaven.

Screen 32

Revelation 18:1,2

And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.

And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, «Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen!»

Proverbs 4:18

The path of the just is as the shining light, that shines more and more to the perfect day.

Let’s prepare ourselves to proclaim the message of the second angel, which is God’s final call to salvation.

This loud cry will be a bright light, shining in a world that is plunged into deep darkness.

Screen 33

2 Corinthians 6:14,17,18; 7:1

Be you not unequally yoked together with unbelievers. (...)

«Come out from among them, and be you separate,» said the Lord, «and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, and will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters,» said the Lord Almighty.

Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

In our preparation for this great work, let’s make sure that we are entirely free from Babylon, and let’s complete our sanctification in Jesus Christ.

Screen 34

Let’s thank God for His help:

Your message is clear, «Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen! (...) Come out of her, My people, that you be not partakers of her sins, and that you receive not of her plagues. For her sins have reached to heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities.» (Revelation 18:2,4,5).

Please grant us the latter rain now, so that we may be able to proclaim this message on Your behalf, and bring all the sincere believers who are still within Babylon to leave her, and to take a stand for You.

In Jesus Christ we pray.

The test of Lesson 100 is waiting for you!
