The Moment of Truth - Test 31

Under Law or Under Grace?

In order to check your understanding and your progress in the study of the Word of God, we invite you to fill out this short test and return it to us. The correct answers will be sent back to you as soon as possible.

A mark of 70% or better will allow you to submit the test of Lesson 32. Upon the completion of the entire Bible course The Moment of Truth, you will receive a Certificate of Achievement.

The Moment of Truth: Test for Lesson 31

  1. God gave Adam and Eve a perfect law. If they had obeyed it, they would have been happy forever. Unfortunately, man transgressed God’s law, and then became a sinner. The Epistle of Paul to the Romans presents one of the sad consequences of this disobedience: «Because the carnal mind is against God: for it is not subject to the of God, neither indeed be.»

  2. Since our sinful nature makes us unable of perfectly keeping God’s law, it is therefore completely impossible to be saved by our obedience to the law. The prophet Isaiah illustrates this by saying that «all our righteousnesses are...»
    «... as a sweet aroma.»
    «... as filthy rags.»
«... praiseworthy efforts which will be received by God.»
«... sufficient for our salvation, if we follow God with faithfulness.»

  3. By looking into the law of God, we soon discover our sinful and desperate situation. The law reveals our spiritual misery, pointing out our many transgressions, and showing us our need of a Savior. The Epistle of Paul to the Galatians tells us, «The law was our to bring us to , that we might be justified by

  4. Many times in the Word of God we find the expression «to be under the law». According to the Epistle of Paul to the Galatians and the Epistle of Paul to the Romans, what does that expression mean?
To be saved through observation of the law.
To perfectly obey the law’s requirements.
Not to believe that Jesus Christ is the Messiah.
To be under the condemnation of the law.

  5. Quoting the Epistle of Paul to the Romans which says, «You are not under the law, but under grace», some people claim that Christians can live as if there were no more law. However, they forget to read the rest of this same passage: «What then? Shall we because we are not under the law but under grace? God Indeed, sin is the transgression of the law, and the apostle Paul declares that we should not sin, even if we are under grace... and especially since we are under grace!

  6. To illustrate the precise role of law and faith in the life of each believer, the apostle Paul asks the following question, in his Epistle to the Romans, «Do we then make void the law through faith?» And how does he answer his own question?
«God forbid! Yes, we establish the law.»
«Yes, for Christ has abolished the law.»
«Yes, for faith is greater than the law.»
«Yes, because the law has been given only to the Jews.»

  7. Through God’s power in our hearts, we will be able to keep His law, not to be saved, but because we are saved, thus showing the sincerity of our repentance and our conversion. The Epistle to the Hebrews makes the following summary of that important point: «[Christ] became the author of eternal to all them that Him.»

  8. Acknowledging that salvation can be obtained only by grace in Jesus Christ, the First Epistle of John also states, concerning the role of God’s commandments in the life of each Christian, that «this is the love of God, that we...»
«... teach that His commandments have been abolished.»
«... may replace His commandments by the tradition of men.»
«... teach that His commandments are for the Jews only.»
    «... keep His commandments.»

  9. By accepting Jesus as our personal Savior, we obtain not only the forgiveness of our past sins, but also the power to do, from that time onward, the will of God. The Epistle of Paul to the Galatians explains what makes us able to obey God’s law: «I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I ; yet not I, but Christ in me.»

  10. In the book of the prophet Ezekiel, God gives us this wonderful promise: «I will put My within you, and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you shall My judgments, and do them.» And, in his Epistle to the Romans, the apostle Paul leans on this promise and declares, «For I delight in the of God after the man.»
