The Moment of Truth - Test 33

The Great Trickery

In order to check your understanding and your progress in the study of the Word of God, we invite you to fill out this short test and return it to us. The correct answers will be sent back to you as soon as possible.

A mark of 70% or better will allow you to submit the test of Lesson 34. Upon the completion of the entire Bible course The Moment of Truth, you will receive a Certificate of Achievement.

The Moment of Truth: Test for Lesson 33

  1. In the Gospel according to Luke, Jesus says, «It is easier for heaven and earth to , than one pronunciation mark of the to Many times, the Bible states that the Ten Commandments, which are the expression of God’s will for us, will never be changed nor abolished.

  2. For its part, the book of Ecclesiastes says, «I know that, whatever God does, it shall be . Nothing can be to it, nor any thing from it.» So one may well wonder how most Christians have come to observe Sunday as the day of rest, rather than the Sabbath of the fourth commandment.

  3. Five of the eight New Testament passages mentioning the first day of the week are found in the Gospels. What do these five passages report?
The women’s visit to Jesus’ tomb.
    The celebration of Jesus’ resurrection.
    The abolition of the Sabbath.
The proclamation of a new day of rest.

  4. The First Epistle of Paul to the Corinthians also mentions the first day of the week. What does Paul advise us to do on this day? «On the first day of the week let every one of you...»
    «... rest from his labors.»
    «... take part in a Christian gathering.»
    «... celebrate Christ’s resurrection.»
«... lay by him in store, as God has prospered him.»

  5. The book of Revelation uses the expression «the Lord’s day». Some people claim that this expression refers to Sunday. But, supposing that this expression referred to a specific day of the week, which day would it be? The book of Exodus answers, «The day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God.» And God Himself adds, in the book of the prophet Isaiah, «If you turn away your foot from the , from doing your pleasure on My holy (...).»

  6. As the apostolic Church was growing, more and more Gentiles joined it, bringing with them some pagan customs which slowly mixed with the Christian form of worship. Among these customs was Sundaykeeping, which was aiming, in pagan religions, at:
calming down the wrath of the gods.
    worshipping the sun.
    cursing the enemy nations.
    worshipping the moon.

  7. During our lesson, we read many quotations from Catholic writers about the change of day of rest from Sabbath to Sunday. According to these quotations, please check off, in the following list, all the statements which summarize the position of the Catholic Church:
The Bible does not sanctify Sunday.
Jesus and the apostles were keeping the Sabbath.
The Catholic Church is at the origin of the change of the day of rest.
Sundaykeeping is a mark of the Catholic Church’s authority.

  8. During His ministry on earth, Jesus met people who would rather keep their tradition than observe the commandments of God. In the Gospel according to Mark, Jesus said to them, «In do they worship Me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of . For laying aside the commandment of , you hold the of men.»

  9. Throughout history, there have always been religious leaders influencing people to disobey the commandments of God. In the book of the prophet Ezekiel, God directs these reproaches at them, «Her priests have violated My law, and have profaned My holy things: they have put no difference between the holy and profane, neither have they showed difference between the unclean and the clean...»
«... and they do not perform the sacrificial rituals.»
«... and they have forgotten the Feast of the Unleavened Bread.»
«... and they no longer pay tithe of anise and cummin.»
«... and they have hid their eyes from My Sabbaths.»

  10. Still in the book of Ezekiel, God tells us, «Walk you not in the statutes of your , neither observe their , nor defile yourselves with their idols. I am the Lord your God; walk in My statutes, and keep My judgments, and do them. And hallow My ; and they shall be a between Me and you, that you may know that I am the Lord your God.»
